Does my Cigna insurance plan cover lactation consultations?

Home, office and virtual Lactation Services are fully covered with no copay by your Cigna health insurance. This includes prenatal education, lactation consultations, postnatal breastfeeding help, infant feeding education, flange fitting and breast pumping appointments. Cigna considers this preventative care and provides 6 visits for education and lactation care.

The easiest way to obtain 6 fully covered lactation appointments is to Request an Appointment here. We set up your account with Cigna/Wildflower Health, and give you a fully covered lactation appointment in the time frame that you request. You will need your Cigna insurance card to complete the request.

MVP Cards with the Cigna logo are also processed through Wildflower Health and receive the same benefits.

About Wildflower:

Wildflower Health logo

Wildflower Health links parents and IBCLCs, submits claims to Cigna on your behalf, and pays Donna Bruschi, IBCLC/New Baby New Paltz for providing your lactation education and consultation. Though not necessary, you can upload your card separately through Wildflower. You will see "New Baby New Paltz" as your provider.

If you previously registered through Wildflower, you do not to do so again. You can see more than one Lactation Consultant if you choose.

Provider relations for Cigna considers lactation consultations as preventative care, so we encourage 6 visits per pregnancy/baby. This includes prenatal and postpartum visits. Mom is covered 100%, never a copay or a
deductible. Each member is approved for six separate consults per pregnancy whether virtual, in-office or in-home. Any other lactation consultations or classes that mom may have received from any providers other than Wildflower, will not count as one of these 6 visits. If a patient requires more than 6 visits due to medical need or only Baby has coverage, we can be flexible so please reach out to Wildflower for approval. There is a
visit counter in the patient profile screen.

Ella B.

My son was born with a lip and tongue time, and even after his procedure, nursing was extremely painful. I would cry and clench my fists during every feeding, staring at the timer until 20 minutes were up so I could give myself permission to unlatch my son. Feeding him was a huge burden and caused me a great deal of anxiety because of how much it hurt.

I worked with Donna during the first few months of my son's life. I went from dreading nursing, to nursing on demand thanks to her support.
