Fees & Insurance

What are your fees & does my insurance plan cover them?

I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and lactation services should be covered by your health insurance or employee benefit plan, in full, with no copay. That said, it doesn't always work that way. It's often confusing, and I will do my best to help you navigate this.

Aetna

I am in-network with Aetna. I will file a claim for each consult we have together and accept the negotiated amount as payment. You are responsible for any charges Aetna says are yours. I will give you a receipt and if you want, you can dispute the charges with them.

BCBS, Anthem, Cigna, UHC, VA and some other plans

If your insurance plan participates in The Lactation Network (TLN), your lactation consultations can be pre-approved for two or more consults, I will file your information with TLN to check participation. TLN will send you an approval or a denial.

You may also need to pay my travel fee if you want a home visit in far, far, away land.

Emblem and CDPHP

I am not in-network with these insurance plans. Some clients have "Requested An Exception" by calling the plan. The plan then calls me and we negotiate an agreement for payment. This can take up to two weeks, and if you have a newborn can feel like an eternity. Plan ahead or self pay.

MVP, Fidelis, Tricare

I am not in-network with these plans. They seem resistant to paying for lactation services, except for MVP which has a decent telehealth lactation consultant network. Expect to self pay.

Travel fees for Far, Far, Away Land

My office is in Highland, NY. Use Google Maps for reference. I do offer home lactation consultations in Far, Far, Away Land and I will travel up to 90 minutes.

My travel fee is:

  • $50 for 46-60 minutes away

Ella B.

My son was born with a lip and tongue time, and even after his procedure, nursing was extremely painful. I would cry and clench my fists during every feeding, staring at the timer until 20 minutes were up so I could give myself permission to unlatch my son. Feeding him was a huge burden and caused me a great deal of anxiety because of how much it hurt.

I worked with Donna during the first few months of my son's life. I went from dreading nursing, to nursing on demand thanks to her support.
