A 15 minute quick lactation consultation, at your earliest convenience
How do you get answers for your many questions?
This appointment is appropriate if you fit one or more of these situations:
- You would like a formal evaluation of your situation before scheduling an appointment.
- You had a previous appointment, your free week is over and you have more questions.
- You are going back to work and have some questions
- You have a new problem like plugged ducts, mastitis, biting and aren't sure what to do
- You are new to breastfeeding and wondering if something, you or your baby does is normal, but everything else is going fine.
A quick question lactation consultation can cover one or two questions:
- About the difficulties you are experiencing
- Something your don't understand about breastfeeding
- A quick check of you and your baby breastfeeding
- Check for nipple, breast, mouth or tongue problems
- Questions about your milk production
- Provide comfort measures until a full lactation consultation
- Refresher on pumping, hand expression techniques and milk storage guidelines
- Refer you to someone who can better help you with your problem
- Modify your breastfeeding plan to accommodate your changing lifestyle
Here are my Policies:
1. I will do my best to get breastfeeding right for you and your baby.
2. I will bring respect, love and caring into every interaction.
3. It's OK to cry during our appointment
4. Be who you are - I won't judge you, your baby, or the dishes in your sink.
5. There is no one lonelier than a new mom. I will get you connected with other breastfeeding moms.
I want breastfeeding to work for you, your baby, your lifestyle, your family and your dreams.
Here are my Standards:
We make sure your baby is fed.
My first choice of food is your breast milk, either at your breast, or from your stash. My next choice would be donor milk from a milk bank, or other donor. If that isn't available, we use formula.
You, your baby, your breastfeeding goals, opinions, culture, lifestyle, and family will be respected when we work together.
I have an evidence-based practice. What we do has been studied and shown to work and you don't get stuck with miseducation.
You are the expert in your baby, (even if you don't feel like it, yet.) You set the pace and decide if you like something or don't.
We keep your baby calm. It is essential to be gentle with your baby.
I follow current American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines and track weights, and stools, so we are confident your baby is getting enough milk.
Your situation, problem, solution, and story are private, except where I, like other health care providers, have legal responsibilities mandated by law.
Followup appointments may be needed depending on your particular needs. Followup consultations are at a special returning client rate.
